Milita's Memories

As you all probably remember, Lita loved to eat! I wanted to feed her good-quality food.

My friend, D, lived with a couple of kitties at one time. One of the kitties was a little, "fluffy," and had diabetes. He ate Evo and went into remission from his diabetes!

So, I decided it was a food worth trying with Carmine and Lita. I purchased a bag and switched them over gradually like you're supposed to.

However, I quickly noticed that Lita was scratching her ears - a LOT! She'd sit on the floor and scratch and scratch and scratch.....

I scooped her up and took her to our vet. Our vet determined that Lita was having an allergic reaction to the Evo. She got some ear drops (which Lita hated, especially because they had to be kept cold!), and I switched her back to the previous food.

We never did determine what it was in the Evo that caused her reaction, but she never had an allergic reaction to any other food in her life.

  1. Those food allergies are never fun, especially if you liked the food.

  2. You never know sometimes when your switching over to a new food. We know those cold ear drops must have been annoying. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day.

  4. Poor kitty, that must have been awful. Glad you got her right to the vet.

  5. As with everything, what works great for one, may not for another. Glad you could switch back and stop the itching.

  6. Oooh cold stuff in your ears * shudders * That sounds no fun.

I am baffled about why there was a reaction. Sometimes you just need to kick things off track a little.

  7. How very odd Sierra....you know Nylablue was sensitive to foods also. And every time I tried to switch her to 'better' quality food it was an epic fail. Our cats sure keep us guessing don't they????
Wonder what Milita & Nylablue are up to in Summerland? Bet they look down on us & MOL a lot!

  8. I am glad that when you changed the food back that Lita's allergies stopped. Eric couldn't eat food with beef extract in it.

  9. We'll never know everything that's in cat food, unless we make it ourselves from animals we've grown ourselves!

  11. You never know what is going to cause a kitty's system to react! I'm glad you caught Lita's issue as quickly as you did.

  12. We love that photo of Lita. You sure do have to keep track of any reaction to keep our furs safe
