Remembering Jewel

Today is not only Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, it is the second anniversary of Jewel's journey to the Rainbow Bridge.

I only knew my little angel for 4 short years before she left us, and she only lived with me for two of those years.  I gave her everything I could in the four years I knew her, and I did my best to spoil her and give her all the love she deserved when she came to live here.  I am blessed to have been given the opportunity to care for precious Jewel, and I am so blessed that so many of you took part in her care by donating to her medical treatment during her long struggle with kidney disease.  You all helped me keep her alive and happy for a long time, and I will forever be thankful to each of you who supported us whether financially or emotionally.  All of the support and love you all showed my angel was amazing, and I will never forget it.

I have peace about Jewel's passing, but I do not have peace about her life before she came to live with us.  It makes me so incredibly sad that she was mistreated before she came to live here.  I know that this is something I cannot change, but she deserved so much more than she got in life.

On this day, I'd like to share a few of my very favorite memories of my angel with you.

Jewel's former owner would play Rock Band on his PlayStation sometimes.  One of my favorite memories of Jewel is that she was running around on the top of the couch singing along as her former owner played this game.

Jewel loved treats!!  I mean she lived for treats.  I loved feeding her treats because they made her so happy.  Sometimes she'd come up behind my chair while I was working on the computer and meow a demand for treats at me.  Of course I stopped what I was doing to give her one!

Every night, our friend D would read to us, and Jewel and Carmine enjoyed listening to the story.  Jewel really loved to spend time in the kitty cubes we have, so if she wasn't in the cube in my room, I would carry her in whatever cube she was in into my room so she could hear the story.  She really seemed to enjoy that quality time each night.

I love how much Jewel talked!  One of my favorite memories of her is of her having a long conversation with me one night while I washed dishes.

To anyone who has lost a companion, I extend my sympathies.  It is so very difficult to lose the companions we love so much.

I love my Jewel and miss her every day.

  20. Thank you for sharing Jewel with us ... no doubt her heart was just as beautiful as her muted coat. We'll never understand how just the right cat appears at just the right time ... but the love and memories last forever.

  31. This is a beautiful tribute to your Jewel. I'd say that her last years with you wiped out those earlier years. She was loved beyond measure, and it was that that she took with her to the Rainbow Bridge. It's not where we start that matters, but where we finish, and I'd say that Jewel's finish line here on earth was pretty much perfect. She will always be with you, until you meet again.
