PetSafe Current Pet Fountain Review

Carmine drinks out of the PetSafe Current Pet Fountain.
Cats need to drink one ounce of water for every pound they weigh each day.  That means if your cat weighs 10 pounds, he needs to drink 10 ounces of water each day.

There are several ways you can encourage your cat to drink more, one of which is getting your cat a pet fountain.

Last month was Pet Hydration Month, and we received a new PetSafe® Current Fountain to review.

Since Milita doesn't drink out of fountains, Carmine will be the only one giving his review.

PetSafe Current Pet Fountain

The PetSafe Current Pet Fountain offers pet owners an affordable way to encourage their pets to drink more water.

Key features of the fountain include:

  • It is made from BPA-free plastic.
  • It is dishwasher safe.
  • It offers a constant source of fresh, filtered water.
  • The activated charcoal filter removes bad odors and tastes from the water.

The fountain is available in Orchid Purple and Forest Green in three sizes - 40 ounces, 80 ounces, and 120 ounces.

We received a 40-ounce Orchid Purple fountain for review.

This fountain was incredibly easy to put together.

The fountain is pretty quiet.  Unlike many other fountains, the PetSafe Current Pet Fountain doesn't have a stream of water that flows down into the base.  Rather, the bowl circulates the water around.  If Lita were to ever drink out of a fountain, I think she'd really like this one because she gets nervous around fountains that have a stream of water that runs into the basin.  If you have a skittish cat like Lita, this may be a good fountain option for your cat.

The fountain stayed out unnoticed for a couple of days before Carmine decided to check it out.  I've had the fountain out for him for approximately a month now, and he drinks out of it regularly.  He seems to really like it.

The fountain needs to be cleaned once a week.  It is dishwasher safe, but I do not have a dishwasher, so I hand wash ours.  I've noticed that the fountain doesn't get nearly as slimy as some of the other fountains we've had, which is really nice.  It is very easy to clean and reassemble, too.

FTC Disclosure: We received an Orchid Purple PetSafe Current Pet Fountain for a fair and honest review.  Receiving the fountain did not influence my (or Carmine's) opinions.  All opinions expressed on Fur Everywhere are our own.

  4. Bear's always been good about drinking enough, but I'm considering one of these nonetheless. He's a bit skittish, so this one might be an option. Thank you!

  5. Daiquiri loved having a fountain, but we can't seem to find one that doesn't break quickly

  6. I love the color and it's good to know that it's easy to clean. We have a number of fountains at PAWS and some are not all that easy to re-assemble.
I'm glad Carmine is enjoying it.

  11. That looks like a nice, quiet fountain. Our fountain is loud enough that Ashton and Pierre won't drink out of it.

  14. We might like one of those. We had a fountin here in the past, but Pipo played in it and messed it up all the time. Sheesh. We remember how the petcretary grumbled about cleaning it of all the accumulated slime...yuck! Happy to hear this one is less so.
