Jewel's Journey

Jewel, a dilute tortoiseshell cat laying on a pink fleece blanket on the couch
Hi everyone!  Carmine's curled up in my lap as we remember our sweet Jewel today.

One thing I really loved about Jewel is that she always had something to say!  She was not shy in the least about letting you know what she wanted or needed, and she shared her opinions.

Something else Jewel would do was say "hi" to her former owner when he told her to!  It was the cutest thing.  Her former owner would say, "Jewel, say hi!" and Jewel would say, "Raow!" right on cue.  I tried for months and months to get her to say "hi" to me on command like that, but she never did.  So whenever I wanted her to say "hi," I had to tell her former owner to tell her to say it.

I no longer remember what Jewel's raows sounded like, and that makes me very sad.  I'm sure I would know it if I heard it, but I wish I could remember.

On Tuesday, when we went to the vet with Milita (I will have an update posted about her soon), I took the shelter a little case of Fancy Feast classics - some of Jewel's favorite food - and a few bags of treats to honor Jewel's birthday (which was June 24th).  I hope the kitties at the shelter enjoy the food and treats as much as our angel did.  She lived for treats, and I always loved watching her enjoy them.

  1. What a lovely and thoughtful thing to do in Jewel's memory. You know those shelter kitties will get much pleasure from the food and treats. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

  2. Truffles' little tortie chatter was one of my very favorite things about her. She talked non-stop. I had always planned to get video of her voice one day but I thought I had all the time in the world. I hope I never forget what she sounded like.

I'm sure the shelter kitties are loving your generous gift and Jewel is looking down on them (and you) purring.

  3. That was a very sweet way to honor a sweet kitty. I try to record some of my kitties purring, but I need to try harder to get them all.

  4. Sometimes the best thing to do when you're feeling down is to give to others. This post is a great reminder of that. Sorry about your Jewel!

  8. Sierra thank you for this post, I loved it! We had 9 fur babies at one time and are now down to two. We had one, then Hunter turned 16 and was given the choice of an iPad or a kitten for his birthday - he chose KITTEN! His kitty was at the shelter and shared Hunter's name. So sweet of you to donate in Jewel's honor! Keep up the great work!

  9. I'm always amazed at how different each cat sounds. When I go to bed at night, sometimes I will hear the cats roaming about - they talk and I can always tell who is who!

I love hearing about Jewel and it was so very kind of you to bring treats to the shelter on her behalf.

    xoxo

  14. What a nice thing to do for the shelter kitties in Jewel's memory. We bet Jewell would approve.

The mom has a recording of the cat who came before us meowing. You reminded her that she should record all of us now.
