Jewel's Journey

I don't know why, but I've been having an especially difficult time missing Jewel this week.  Everything seems to remind me of her, and I find myself wanting to cry a lot.  Sometimes I wish I could talk to a friend about my feelings, but I never want to bother the people I care about, so I haven't asked.  Carmine has been giving me a bit of extra love, and that has been helpful.

Today I want to share some photos of Jewel's 14th birthday.

The summer of Jewel's 14th birthday and Milita's 9th birthday, I decided to have a little birthday party for all the kitties (even though Carmine's birthday is in February).  Here's Jewel on her 14th birthday.  She's waiting for all the excitement to begin.

Carmine decided to wait for the party to begin on the kitchen table!

We grilled hot dogs and hamburgers.  I even ordered a special cake for the occasion.

Here's the kitties' Hello Kitty cake all lit up.

That was a nice party, and I think all the kitties enjoyed themselves that day.

  2. What a fun party! I love that idea. I hope you can talk with some friends and share the pain. It helps when others help carry the weight of the grief. And I know how some weeks the grief feels heavier or more present, I still get waves of grief that knock me sideways.

  4. How fun! I didn't get much of a birthday celebration this year. Sparkle got big ones and even a holiday (Cat World Domination Day) - I think doing them every year wore out my human!

  11. It is hard to lose one who is so greatly loved. Even though we think we are coping, a word or a memory can knock us right back into that unhappy place where the pain of missing them is as bad as it ever was. I understand how you feel and send you (((hugs))). I wish I could give you a real hug of support instead of virtual ones, but the thought is still there.
