Mancat Monday: Carmine and Milita Updates

Hi everyone, it's mes, Carmine!

The other day, the Mom was sorting hers clothes to wash, and hers put this pillowcase on mes.  Silly Mom!  Mes didn't mind, though.
Last week, mes went to the Stabby Place with Lita.  The Mom was supposed to take Lita and NOT mes, mes told hers, but hers didn't listen.

Mes went first this time.  Mes weighs 10 pounds and 10 ounces - the most mes has ever weighed!  The Mom and Dr. Stabby were soooo happy that Dr. Stabby said mes doesn't need to get mes B12 shots anymores!  Then Dr. Stabby said mes didn't have to come back for THREE MONTHS.  Mes doesn't know how long that is, but mes is guessing it is longer than one month, so that's got to be good, right?

Then it was Lita's turn.  The Mom says hers has been drinking lots and lots of water and it worries hers.  Dr. Stabby did an exam on Milita and found that hers gained 3.5 ounces.  Ummm.....mes thought MES was the only one who was supposed to be gaining weight around here.  Mes thought Lita was supposed to be on a diet.....MOL.

Dr. Stabby took Lita to the "back room" and tried to get urine from hers, but hers did not have a big enough bladder, so the Mom went upstairs to visit the adoptable kitties for a bit while we waited for Lita to get a bigger bladder.

They ended up getting the urine and blood work they needed.  Lita's urine was bloody, so the vet diagnosed hers with cystitis and gave hers Bupenorphine to help with the pain and inflammation.  It has helped.  Hers is supposed to go back next week to get another urinalysis, the Mom says, to see if the blood is still there.  Dr. Stabby said if it is, Lita will have to eat ONLY urinary tract food like mes.

The blood tests showed that everything is "within normal range," but that Lita's kidney values are rising.  The Mom was very upset to hear this as we just lost Jewel 6 months ago to CRF.  The Mom is running around trying to figure out how to prolong the onset of the CRF for Lita for as long as possible.  Mes hopes hers figures something out!

We thank everyone who has supported and encouraged the Mom on Facebook.  We do not want to get into the details here, but the vet trip was traumatic for everyone, and the Mom is looking at other veterinary options for us.

What do you look for in a new veterinarian?

  3. I'm glad that your check ups didn't show anything too bad - I know that your human is getting good advice for Milita's kidney values. I hope you get the vet situation worked out - it's important to have a vet you (or at least your human) feels good about visiting!

  4. Well done Carmine ! We send purrs to Milita. The most impawtant is that your human trusts your vet and has a good feeling with him. And if it's not too much expensive, it's even better ! Purrs

  5. Glad you're doing so well, Carmine. Can you ask local rescues about your veterinary options? Sometimes they have insight because they tend to be in touch with a lot of the local veterinary community.

  7. We are glad tht things are in the good section of what may be happening...and we hope too that you will get a vet you can be of like minds with. We know that feeling, too...we are not the happiest with our vet, she thinks meowmy is nutzo for the ideas and questions she has...maybe non vets are not supposed to know anything?? Sheesh:(
(She told meowmy that it was not good to be hand feeding Minko...um...and let him starve instead...nope, not happnening!)

We hope that CRF in its evilness will stay away for long times.
(((( Purrs and hugs to all of you. ))))

  8. We're glad you're doing well Carmine. Choosing a vet is hard, we drive 20mins (and past 3 other vets) to get to the one we like. Recommendations from others are important.

  9. Having a vet you trust is so important. Sam has been to the same vet for 15 years and we can tell HE likes the vet because he's so relaxed when he's there - for a nervous kitty that's a good sign all is well. Our vet is conservative but thorough. I don't like doctors who "over prescribe" and "over diagnose".....just as I don't like human doctors who are like that! Happy to hear Carmine is in good shape and we hope Milita's meds help her too!

  11. Way to go, Carmine! Glad you are doing better. Sorry to hear about Lita - at least you now know what the problem is and can hopefully take preventative measures.
One of the most important qualities in a vet for us is having one that genuinely cares for our kitties. You can tell when someone truly cares or is just going through the motions of their job. Having a loving and caring vet who is also considerate of financial constraints is a plus! Good luck in your new vet search!
