Carmine's Having Surgery

I talked to the vet office today who agreed that stopping the antibiotic was the best thing to do (I stopped it on Sunday night/Monday morning). They said they could put Carmine on a different antibiotic, but seeing as Carmine's been having trouble with his teeth now for a month and it's affecting not only how he eats but how much he eats, I decided it was best to go ahead and schedule him for surgery to get the tooth/teeth extracted.

He's already in pain again. :( It's so sad!

His surgery is scheduled for next Tuesday. The vet wanted to give him a few days to recover from the number the antibiotic did on his tummy before surgery. God willing, only a few more days of pain for him and then he'll feel better.

  1. Best wishes for you Carmine! I know how you feel, I had a horrible toothache a little over a year ago while I was pregnant. Was not easy finding someone to pull the tooth!

  10. Purrs for Carmine! It's better to have the tooth (or teeth) out now.

Nicki was 3 years old when he had 8 extractions. He also had infection below the gum, so much so that the vet told me he flinched under anesthetic, poor boy.

Derry was also 3 years old when he had *9* extractions! I wasn't expecting that many and nearly fell over when his vet told me. I remember her looking at me and saying it was better to have them out sooner than later, and she was right. Derry has only one or two back chewing teeth left, on the upper jaw, but he manages his little bit of kibble and his treats just fine.

Once Carmine's mouth heals, he'll feel ever so much better.

  15. Hang in there, Carmine. You probably don't think so, but things are gonna get better for you shortly.

Lots of kitties had ALL their teeths pulled, and most were much the better for it. (sometimes, kitties can be allergic to their own teeth) (sounds weird to me, too)

    Purrrrrrrsssss

  18. Carmine will definitely feel better after his surgery. We are just sorry that he must endure the pain until next week. If you do let bad teeth go, the infection can get into the jaw bone which is really serious. We'll be saying extra prayers for Carmine.
