Sad News

Thank you all for the wonderful and sweet comments on our new bloggie design!  Ann truly is amazing and we loves hers <3 p="">
Unfortunately, we have a lot of sad news to share today.

First, while at church, I received a text from a friend who told me she has to put her wonderful doggie to sleep tomorrow (Saturday).  This is so heartbreaking.  I'm so sad for her (she's a really good friend of mine).  It makes me sad for the doggie and for her and her husband.  I shed tears for them when I got off the phone.  I wish I could do something to help them.  I hate seeing the people I love be in pain.

Second, remember our friend Amber?  I talk to her daddy often, and he says that her tumor is continuing to grow.  It is so very sad.  My heart breaks for them, too.

Third, I talked to the vet today about Jewel.  Jewel has lost more weight.  In two week's time, she's lost another 3.5 ounces, making her current weight 8 pounds, 14 ounces. :(  She is losing weight at a rapidly alarming rate!

Jewel's thyroid test came back normal.  So now they want to check her blood pressure and do a urinalysis to check and see if she's urinating protein.  If those don't reveal anything, they want to do a GI panel and an abdominal ultrasound.

I asked the vet what we could do to get her to eat.  She said to give Jewel whatever food she wants.  Right now, she won't even eat Lita's yummy wet food, so when we go to PetSmart this weekend, I'm going to get a few different brands to see if she'll eat something else.  Any suggestions for yummy wet noms?

The vet also suggested giving her 1/4 a 10mg Pepcid because Jewel's kidney problem might be making her tummy upset.  So I will remind her dad to do that, too.

I am very worried and upset about her continuous decline.  I love hers so much; I don't want her to go to the Bridge!  I know that's selfish, but it's true.

Finally, Carmine was acting kind of strangely when I got home.  I HOPE I'm just overreacting, but I'll be watching him very closely over the next few days to make sure he isn't getting sick.

Purrs and prayers for all the kitties and their families would be appreciated.  If you have an extra hug to spare, I could use one, too.  Sometimes I really don't like how empathetic I am.  I feel the pain of those I love.  I just wish I could do something to help.

  1. I am sending lots of purrs your way! I know how much sick kitties stress out you humans and how badly you want to do right by us.

Most of the extra-tasty food that I know of isn't sold at the major pet food chains. Fussie Cat is one that is frequently used for cats who aren't eating well. And the ones you might find at Petsmart, it is hard to say, since we kitties all have such different food preferences. Some humans swear by Fancy Feast but when I am not eating well, it does nothing for me. Anything really strong smelling is probably good - we don't eat tuna-based cat food, but in Jewel's case this might be a good idea. And when I really am off my food, my human will bring home a fried chicken thigh - I ALWAYS eat that (not the skin, just the meat). I happen to really love chicken (or poultry of any kind), and KFC is my favorite, even though my human does not approve!

  2. I'm so sorry that things are not going well at the moment... I'm sending some purrs to you, and I agree with Miss Sparkle - try food with strong smells, and slightly warm (so it smells even stronger)

  3. We're sending lots of purrs and hugs and prayers, for you and your friends. Wow, you're really being hit aren't you?
KFC is Star's absolute favorite too. We don't give her the breading, but she loves the chicken. Leo wont touch human food, or cat treats.. Leo also can't have anything with fish because of his kidney issue that we do not want repeating. So chicken is a big one around here. Cheese is a huge thing here, there are several brands that have cheese in the food now. The egg ones.. not a huge hit at first when it was fancy feast, but they went nuts for 9 lives (I think, big can) I hope you find something she'll gobble!

  4. The pepcid is a good idea. Nobody wants to eat when their tummy is feeling icky.

We don't get canned food here, but we do get a chicken breast grilled (unseasoned) for us about once a week when the peeps are grilling their own dinner. Cut into bits, it's a tasty treat.

  5. We're sorry to hear about your friend's cat being so sick. Maybe a small amount of food more often may be the answer as being faced with a full dish could be off putting.

  6. we are so sorry....

we wonder if Carmine is reacting to everything going on around him

Our local rescue vet keeps cans of just regular chicken to feed if they need to. I have yet to see any of the fosters we take there refuse it. Also, we had a sick momma cat here and the only thing she would eat was the tuna flavor Target brand....

  10. More purrz coming Jewels way from all us Boyz and our Mom sents Huggz to Jewel.
Setzer is the only picky eater here but he LOVES pink salmon out of the pouch.
Chicken of the sea brand salmon in the pouch at Walmart. My boyz get this for lunch once a week and the other lunches they get ground Perdue chicken. Morning and dinner time they are on PetGuard canned food. Since we have been feeding the pure meat once a day we have noticed a difference in their eyes, fur, gums and energy. Also, clear Pedialyte helps Tinker when his urinary track would be out of whack but we haven't had to give it to him since feeding the afternoon meat. We would use a med syringe and slowly put it in the side of his mouth.
My husband bought the Cuisinpro Turboforce 1800w power food grinder online on ebay and it works great but it is noisy. I hope Jewel feels better soon, Holly

  11. We're so sorry to hear all the sad news. Purrs to your friend and Amber and Amber's dad.

We hope you can find a food that Jewel will eat. Our mom likes to give us the juice from canned chicken...kinda like canned tuna but chicken. But only the all white meat, low sodium kind. Sometimes the mom will put it on our food to get us to eat it. We like the chicken part too. Also, baby food is good for kitties who don't have much of an appetite. Make sure you get the kind that is just meat. There is a prescription diet food called a/d that kitties recovering from illnesses will eat. It's suppose to be yummy tasting and high in calories.

  15. Oh help! We came to say hello and thanks for visiting. So sad to hear your troubles. When Au was ill he lost his sense of smell and that stopped him eating. We got him going on the smelliest and sweetest cat food. Chicken and rice from Smartheart. Good luck and our purrs to you all!
