Miles Over the Rainbow Bridge

On Friday, I found out that our dear friend Miles went to the Rainbow Bridge.  I was very sad to hear this, and I know that so many people will miss him.  Miles was a very sweet boy.  He loved to sit in laps and to be pet.  He was a friendly guy who could make your day better just by being around.

We send our love, purrs, and hugs to everyone who loved and cared for Miles.

Vote for the Next Cat Invention

Meow Mix wants pet parents' imput on which new project they should complete.  I think all three of these products are pretty cool, so I'm not sure which one I'll vote on yet.

1. #MeowMachine - The #MeowMachine allows you to feed your cat from Twitter.

2. Hot Keys - Hot Keys is a bed that looks like a human keyboard.  When you plug it into your computer, the bed warms up while you type.

3. Twister Dish - The Twister Dish funnels food from the outer edges of the dish to the center so that your cat can more easily get to all of his or her food.

You can watch a short video on each project and vote for your favorite at Meow Mix Cat Starter.

Which one are you going to vote for?

Mancat Monday + Carmine Update

Carmine: I'm trying to sleep here, but the Mom is bugging me with the flashy box.

Me went to the v-e-t last Friday - AGAIN.  I don't know why the Mom insists on taking me to that place so often when it scares mes so much!

This time, the vet tech gave mes a shot and put mes on the scale.  But then the v-e-t went to talk to the Mom in another room, so I will have to let hers tell you what hers said...

The Mom here.  Carmine, I take you to the vet so much because I LOVE you SOOOO MUCH!!  You are my sweet baby boy and I want you to be healthy and happy.  You'll be glad to know that we won't have to go to the vet so much now that you're more stable. :)

That's right, everyone.  Carmine is stabilizing!  The vet said Carmine gained 3.5 ounces this week!!  He weighs 8 pounds, 15.5 ounces now.  The Mirtazapine (appetite stimulant) made Carmine very, very hungry.  However, it also made him feel agitated and he ran around crying a lot.  I couldn't even pet him or pick him up, and it made me cry to see him like that.  I called the vet immediately, of course, and she told me to stop giving him the medication (which I figured would be the case).  We have switched Carmine to Ciproheptadine, another appetite stimulant.  He seems to be doing a lot better on this one.  It doesn't agitate him like the Mirtazapine did, but he still has a good appetite. :)

The vet said will we go to B12 injections every other week now instead of every week.

Carmine's been having some diarrhea, I've noticed, and one of the side-effects of Prednisone is diarrhea, so I'm going to ask the vet if we should change this medication to the other one specifically for IBD (I can't remember the name of it).

All in all, though, Carmine seems to be doing better, and I really hope that he continues to do well.  He's my little baby, and I worry about him so much when he doesn't feel well.  I'm sure all of you pet parents can relate!

Easy Like Sunday with Milita

Hi everyone, Lita here.

Do you know what that little orange brat Carmine had the audacity to do today?

The Mom's friend, D, gave ME a little piece of chicken.  I was about to eat it when Carmine ran over and STOLE it from me!!  Then D gave me another piece of chicken and Carmine ran over and stole it again!!  I finally got a piece, but the Mom had to watch so that Carmine didn't take it from me.

Mom, I think those "appetite stimulants" you're giving the orange one are working TOO well.

Mango Seeks Her Forever Home: Opt to Adopt

Mango

Cat Care Society, Lakewood, CO

Hi!  My name is Mango.  I'm a beautiful blue cream tortie with medium hair.  I can be a little shy at first, but if you sit down beside me, I'll talk to you and let you pet my head.  If I really like you, I'll give you kisses!  I am an 11-year-young kitty.  My age qualifies me for the Perpet-U-Care program, which will pay for a portion of my medical care for the rest of my life.  That's a pretty good deal, don't you think?

I am up-to-date on my vaccinations, spayed, and litter box trained.  I need a forever home without young children.

You can find me in the upstairs hallway at Cat Care Society, located at 5787 W. 6th Avenue in Lakewood, CO.  Won't you stop by and chat with me for a bit?

Mancat Monday: Carmine Update

Hi everyone, Carmine here.

First, we want to wish everyone a HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!

Now, here's an update about me.

Last Friday, the Mom took me to the v-e-t AGAIN!  I don't know why hers keeps taking me to that evil place where they poke mes.  Hers says it 'cause hers loves me, but if she wanted to show me she loves me, she could buy me a Yeoww! toy or give me some chicken!

When we got there, the v-e-t weighed mes.  Hers told the Mom mes weighs 8 pounds and 12 ounces - that is two ounces up from last week.  The Mom gotted so happy hers gave me a big hug right there in the v-e-t's office!

Then the v-e-t lady took me away to another room where they poked me with a needle.  They said it was my weekly B12 injection.  They also expressed my anal glands.

Then the v-e-t brought me back to my Mommy and mes immediately crawled inside my PTU to hide.  The Mom and the v-e-t talked about what to do next.  I was recovering so I'll let the Mom tell you about that.

Mom here.  The vet wants to leave Carmine on the same dose of Prednisone until he stabilizes.  We talked about how Carmine is more social and less isolating now that he has a calming collar on.  She mentioned that there is calming food, too (Carmine is a very sensitive mancat, and I love that about him).  We are holding off on any other food changes, though, since he has FLUTD, and I'd personally be afraid to take him off the FLUTD diet.  All the cats adjusted well to the Royal Canin s/o, and I think they all like it better.  Even Jewel is eating more.

We will continue the Prozyme and the weekly B12 injections as well for the time being.  The vet suggested we give Carmine appetite stimulants to help him get back some of his weight, too, so we gave him his first pill a couple of days ago.  And wow, did it ever make him hungry!!  He bugged me every half hour for food while I slept.

He's been gobbling down wet food and kibbles like there's no tomorrow. :)  Fingers crossed that he continues to put on weight and get well.  Thank you all SO MUCH for your continued support, purrs, prayers, hugs, love, and encouragement!

In case you missed there's an update about Jewel here

Easy Like Sunday

Hi everyone, Jewel here.

I'm enjoying the nice comfy couch here.  There's plenty of room if anyone wants to join.

The Mom says she thinks I'm gaining weight.  We won't know until May, though, when I go to the evil v-e-t to get my weight, blood pressure, and kidney values checked again.  This past week, I has not been eating well, so the Mom has had to work with her friend, D, to give me the yucky appetite pills.  Let me tell you, kitties, how hard I fight them!  I kick and scratch and meow and when they get the pill down my throat, I toss it back out a bunch of times!!

The Mom says the pills are good for me, but she wouldn't like someone shoving pills down HER throat, so why does she do it to me?

Mancat Monday: Carmine Update

Hi everybody, Carmine here.

I love the pickle the Mom gotted me for my birthday!

I don't know if hers told you, but I maintained my weight this week.  When I had to go back to the v-e-t on Thursday, they gave me my second B12 shot and weighed me.  The vet tech lady said I am still 8 pounds and 10 ounces, which made the Mom happy.  Hers wants me to gain some more weight, but hers says if I can stay at my current weight, hers will be happy for nows.  I don't know why the Mom frets about my weight so much.  I just don't eat like a cow like Milita does.

The new Royal Canin s/o kibbles are quite tasty, but I'm still not eating nearly as much as Lita or Jewel.  The Mom was worried about me going on s/o because they thought I may have been allergic to the s/o canned food, but I haven't been scratching any more than usual or anything, so maybe I'm not allergic to it after all.

The Mom here: Carmine goes in for his next B12 shot and weigh-in on Friday.  He is still on one pill of Prednisone in the morning and 1/2 at night.  We are going to continue this regimen for a month.  He has two more B12 shots left before we assess what treatment approach/es to start or continue.  I'm hoping so much that this will help him.  I worry about my little baby a lot (as I'm sure all of you kitty moms and dads can relate to!)!

Carmine also has a Sentry calming collar on, and he seems to be more social these days.  He spends a lot of time laying out here with me in his blue bed instead of in my room in his pink cube.  Don't get me wrong, I love that he loves his cube, but I'm so happy he isn't isolating himself in it anymore :)

Lenny and Leo are both gray domestic medium-hairs.  They are both easygoing and love to cuddle.  We are both very friendly, but Leo is a little shy, and I like to take care of him.  If you're lucky, you can coax Lenny into your lap!

I spent some time with Leo last week, and he is a very affectionate boy.  He loves to have his head pet and his ears scratched!
