More Beautiful Babies from Cat Care Society!

I went to Cat Care Society to get Jewel's meds for her daddy on Tuesday.  While I was there, I visited with some more kitties!!

I don't know most of their names, but maybe somebody from Cat Care will stop by and tell me some of them :)

It's dinnertime!  Ruby likes her noms :)

What's in the bag?!  He/She was so curious and very friendly.  She actually stuck her head in my bag at one point, so adorable!

Jewel's Meds

On Tuesday, I went to Cat Care Society to get Jewel's kidney medications for her daddy.  She will be taking Bupenorphine and Epakitin twice a day.  Bupenorphine is a pain medication and Epakitin is something that binds to phosphorus to prevent further damage to her kidneys.  But that's all I really know about them.  Does anyone else know anything about these meds?  Do they work well?

Jewel has been getting some k/d kibbles and wet food and her daddy says she likes it. Yay!! :)

Jewel's Diagnosis

Jewel has officially been diagnosed with kidney disease. :(  She will start eating k/d after we get her some on Sunday, and then I will go back to Cat Care Society to get her her kidney medication on Tuesday (because they aren't open on Mondays).  Apparently the medication binds with phosphate and takes it out through her poo as to not further damage her kidneys.

She is also "borderline" hyperthyroid, so she will need to be tested again in January.

Cat Care Society's Beautiful Fur Babies

Yesterday, I went to Cat Care Society to get Jewel's antibiotics.  While there, I visited with a lot of adorable fur babies, too.  I don't know their names, but maybe if someone from Cat Care Society stumbles upon this post, they can help me with that. :)

I went into the orange room first; I usually start on the other side of the hall, so don't get to visit these babies that often.  The babies in the orange room are shy.  I was rather surprised and honored that nearly all of them came out of hiding and came over to let me pet them.  One of them even jumped into my lap and purred and purred......so sweet!

This one was so adorable, napping on his/her little shelf!

They are all so adorable :)

I learned that 40% of Cat Care Society's cat adoption population are older or seniors.  If you live in the Denver area, have a lot of love to give a kitty, and can reasonably afford the financial responsibility, to check out Cat Care Society.  They are great over there!

I don't know what I would do without their discounted services to low-income individuals.  Their services have allowed me to get Carmine and Milita ALL the veterinary care they need.  I'd reall like to do something for the shelter, but I'm not very creative.......does anyone have any ideas of what I can do for them?  I just want to give a little something back to a place that has done so much for me and my babies.

Everybody can check out all that the shelter has to offer - including all the fur babies they have available for adoption - by visiting Cat Care Society's website.

Mancat Monday with Carmine

I thought Carmine forgot about his cube since we moved.  So, last night, I put some catnip in his cube and showed it to him.  He was a very happy baby! :)

I have my cube and my catnip cherry......I am one happy boy!

Moooooooooom!  Would you stop pointing that flashy thing at me?  I'm trying to enjoy my cute here!

Jewel's Test Results

When I woke up today, I asked Jewel's dad if he had heard anything from the vet.  He said he hadn't, so I decided to call and see if her tests came back.  They had come back - and there is a lot of news.

The vet told me all of Jewel's kidney values are high.  But she also has an infection (from dental disease).  So she will start Jewel on an antibiotic to get rid of the infection on Tuesday.  After she's done with that, they will get more blood work on Jewel and test the kidney values again.  She said it is most likely not the infection that is causing the high values, though.  It is probably kidney disease.  It is good that they are making sure before they start her treatment, though.  If her second kidney values come back high, she will be started on k/d and given some kind of medicine that will pass certain chemicals in the body out through Jewel's poo as to not damage her kidneys more.  They did not have this when Emma or Kitty had kidney disease, so that gives some hope.

The vet also told me that her urine is not concentrating well at all, either, which also points to kidney disease.

Jewel also had her hyperthyroid test come back in the "gray area."  Apparently, the test they do detects T4, but it doesn't diagnose the hyperthyroidism.  So, they will run another test on her present blood work to see if she has hyperthyroidism, too.  If so, there is medication for that as I'm sure most of you already know.

I will go on Tuesday to get Jewel's antibiotic.  I don't know how long they will want to give it before they want her back for more blood work, but I will keep everyone posted.

Jewel Goes to the Vet

Jewel went to the vet yesterday.

They weighed her and she now weight 9 pounds 12.5 ounces.  I'm estimating she was 12-13 pounds before as she used to be heavier than Milita who weighs about 11 pounds 7 ounces.  I can't speak for her dad, but this much weight loss scares me.

The vet asked a lot of questions and took Jewel's temperature, which was normal.  She decided that blood tests were in order to test for glucose (diabetes), kidney values (kidney disease), and thyroid values (thyroid disease).  She also recommended a urinalysis to test kidney values.

Unfortunately, she had a little accident on the way over, so they had to keep her there to try and get urine from her later in the same day.  I hope she isn't too sad without her daddy!!

It will be a relief to find out what is going on with her so we can make her feel better.  I love her!

Here's a picture of her in the vet's office.  She wouldn't look at me.

Depending on when they were able to get her blood and urine (whether it was yesterday or if they had to wait until today), we will know something either later or not until Tuesday.  I will let you all know.

Jewel Update

I just wanted to let everyone know that Jewel has an appointment with the v-e-t on Thursday at 9am.  We should know something later that day or Friday.  I think it takes them a day to get the blood work back because they have to send her thyroid test out somewhere.  I will update you as soon as I know anything.

Thank you all for your purrs and prayers for our sweet Jewel! :)

Update on Jewel Plus Purrs and Prayers Badge

Our friends at Jan's Funny Farm made this great badge for Jewel!  If you haven't been to visit them, please stop by their blog.  Thank you so much Jan's Funny Farm for making this for us, we appreciate it!!

Everyone is welcome to put it on their bloggie if they like.

We has good noos, too!  Jewel will be going to the vet on Thursday.  Our mama is hoping to be able to go to the evil v-e-t with Jewel's daddy.  We will keep you all posted on how hers is.

Purrs,
Carmine and Milita

Purrs and Prayers for Jewel

I wanted to let everyone know that Jewel needs a lot of purrs and prayers right now.  I am very concerned about her.  She is sick and has lost a lot of weight in the past two months.

If someone wants to make hers a purrs and prayers badge, that would be nice, but nobody is obligated to.  I would make her one if I knew how.

I will do everything in my power to get her to the vet.  I don't feel I am at liberty to say much more than this at this point as she is my ex-roommate's cat, even though I love her as much as I do Carmine and Milita.

If you want to help me get the funds to take her to the vet, you could visit my Yahoo! Voices page and view some of my articles there (again, please don't feel obligated to do so).  I get paid for pageviews there.  You can share the link with all of your family and friends.  I have done quite a few cat articles for them, so I'm sure there will be something interesting to read. ;)

All the love, purrs, and prayers will be much appreciated!! I will keep you all updated as much as I can.

Updates!

We decided it was time to make some updates to our bloggie!  We put up a new header picture, added some more of of favorite friends to our blog list ("More Fur" on the right side), and added the Diabetes Awareness badge. :)

We also created a Rainbow Bridge page to remember our friends.

If you don't see your name/bloggie on our More Fur list, and want to be on it, please drop us a note with your bloggie address so we can go and check you out!  How do you all like the new picture?  Any other ideas for our bloggie?  Please share your thoughts with us.

Jewel Visited!!

Jewel came to visit us today!!!  Yes, Jewel is still with us...I suppose I should have clarified that yesterday!  Sorry if I confused anyone!!  Jewel was one of the roommates cats.  I love her like she's my kitty, even though I guess she's technically not mine.  It had been over two months since I saw her last and missed her very badly.

The babies all got along a lot better than I expected they would after being separated for two months.  Carmine kept following Jewel around.  It was really cute.  Lita was pretty good.  She just kind of sat and watched Jewel.  Jewel wasn't even all that crabby to them.  She seemed quite happy to visit (except for the car ride, apparently).  She found one of the babies' catnip bananas and had fun with that :)

Here are a couple of pictures I took of her while she was here.

Seven Things About Us

We got this award from Hannah and Lucy.  If you have not visited them, you should go check out their blog!  They are cool kitties :)

We know it only says we are to share 7 things about us, but we are each going to take a turn sharing things about us because we can't decide who gets the extra one, MOL!

Milita will go first this time.

1. Every time mama gets out of her chair, I steal it from her.  It is my new favorite spot to sleep.

2. I drink more water than Carmine.

3. My favorite toys are the laser pointer and fishing pole toys.

4. When my favorite people hold and snuggle me, I tweet.

5. When mama watches Meerkats I stand up and poke at the screen with my paws.

6. I love to lay on fleece blankies!

7. I poke at people when they are eating chicken until they give me a piece!

Now it's Carmine's turn.

1. When mama works on the computer, I sleep in my bed on top of her desk.

2. I love being near my mama and I follow her around the house so I can always be by hers.

3. I remind mama when it's time for dinner by sitting on the counter and meowing.

4. When mama wakes up, I immediately demand she pet me!

5. I love my fishing pole and catnip toys.

6. I love to nom Greenies treats; they is so good!

7. When mama reads a book, I promptly get in her lap and lay on it.
