Final Carmine Surgery Update (I Hope)

I wanted to let everyone know that Carmine seems to be eating better now.  So no need for another trip to the vet.  I'm sure he's thrilled about that! :)

Thank you, everyone, who purred and/or prayed for my little baby.  We appreciate it so much!

The Vet Said.....

I called the vet today to talk about the concerns I have about Carmine.

The vet techs (two of them got involved - everyone loves little Carmine!) suggested I heat his food up a bit before I give it to him.  They said to put a little chicken broth or some chicken or turkey baby food (with no veggies) on his food.  They claim kitties really like baby foods.  I never would have guessed that!

I got a jar of turkey and a jar of chicken baby food without vegetables while I was at Walgreen's tonight.  When I got home, I wanted to see how much he would eat on his own.  He's eaten about 2/3 of his dinner.  I will give him the food again shortly to see if he wants any more.  If not, I'll try to put some baby food in the next dinner for him.

The vet techs said his Amoxicillin may have made his tummy upset.  He is off of that now (he's done!).  They also said his gums might still be hurting.  And....he didn't have one extraction...apparently he had TWO and I was misinformed.  I have noticed he stopped eating out of the side of his mouth, so at least that's progress.

If he isn't eating better by Tuesday, they said to call back and we'll have to decide where to go from there.....possibly bring him in for another visit.  My poor little baby!

Hopefully we can entice him to eat some more with the suggestions I received and he won't have to go back so soon.

Another Carmine Update

I wanted to give everyone another update on Carmine.

He is done with his pain meds, and he has one or two doses of Amoxicillin to go.  He is eating some - still not as much as I'd like him to - but what I do now is let him eat his wet dinner in two or three sittings.  He usually gets through most of it like that.

He's entirely too smart, too!  Now when he hears me shake the bottle of his Amoxicillin (which you have to do every time you give it), he runs and hides.  He's learned that I always look under the bed first, so he changed his hiding spot to under my little white dresser.  This evening, I couldn't find him.  It turns out, he went to hide under my big brown dresser.  Silly kitty.  Doesn't he realize mama will always find him? ;)

I'm sure the vet would have called if something showed up in his blood tests, but I'm going to call tomorrow and make sure.

Thank you again everyone for the purrs and prayers and good thoughts for my baby! :)

UPDATE:

Carmine is definitely still not eating enough.  He is eating some, which is good, but not enough. I'm calling the vet later to see what ideas they have.  I'm fairly certain he's losing weight and he absolutely cannot afford to lose even one more single ounce.  I wonder if the Science Diet prescription a/d would be possible to put him on temporarily......we'll see what the vet thinks; I'm sure they will have some kind of idea~!

A Question and Another Update on Carmine

I have a question, and then another update.  I'm hoping some of you or your humans will have some ideas!

I think Carmine's still in pain.  He keeps rubbing his face on *everything.*  He's only on the pain medication for one more day (antibiotics for five more).  How can I make my baby more comfortable?  I don't like seeing him in pain at all; it makes me very sad.

Now for the update.

Carmine ate about two-thirds of his wet dinner tonight.  He has also been eating a little kibble now and then.  I think he's on track to eating normally again soon, which makes me happy!

Hope everyone is doing well and having a good weekend!

Carmine's Home from Surgery

Thank you all so much for the purrs and prayers!! The support of the blogosphere is truly amazing :)

I would have had an update about Carmine earlier if my sinus infection hadn't been kicking my behind all day.  But here's one now!

Carmine only had to have one extraction.  Apparently they were able to save the other three they were worried about.  But....the vet tech says he has "chronic gum disease."  She recommended feeding him Greenies treats since she knows Carmy won't let me brush his teeth.  So I will grab some of those on Sunday.

Unfortunately when he was expressed at the vet this time, he was full, so every three months it is for getting him expressed... :(  He's not going to like that!!

Since he's been home, he spends most of his time under my bed napping and pouting.  He refused to eat anything the first night he was home and most of today.  He finally ate a little bit on his own a few hours ago and a tiny bit more just a little bit ago.  It hasn't been much, but at least he's eating something!!  I was getting quite worried I'd have to take him to the hospital.  It looks like he's feeling a little better, though.  I hope he eats more later.

He HATES his medications.  He sits and my arms and says "Moooooo!" when it's time for them.  He sure knows how to make mama feel guilty.  I wish he could understand that the medications are to help him feel better.

I have to be a "bad mama" again here shortly and administer the pain med and antibiotic before we all head to sleep here.

I just wanted to give everyone an update because I know some of you were wondering about him :)

Carmine's Having Surgery

I wanted to let everyone know that Carmine is having oral surgery tomorrow.  The vet said she will need to do at least one and up to four extractions on him.

If everybody could purr and pray for Carmine, we would appreciate it.  I'm sure he'll do just fine, but I'm an overprotective mama and I worry about my babies.

We will be visiting everyone very soon. We have some other updates to share later, too.  We have missed everyone and hope you are well!

LiveSTRONG Day

We are sorry it's been so long since we last posted.  We have updates to share, but that will be another post.

Today is LiveSTRONG Day.

We post this in honor of the human's aunt who is a breast cancer survivor and in loving memory of the human's grandfather whose life was taken by cancer.

We pray that a cure be found for cancer someday soon.
