Emma has kidney trouble. She's 18 so that can be expected at her age. But she's not been feeling well lately. She's losing more weight and hasn't had much of an appetite the past day or two. It could be that she's just having a rough couple of days, but I'd really appreciate any good vibes or prayers all of you other wonderful cats and cat owners can offer up for her.

In other news, I am feeling much better. Carmine and Milita took exceptionally good care of me when I was sick last week. Cat medicine truly is the best medicine :)

Ear Cleaning

Everyone gets to benefit from my insomnia ;)

If your cat scratches his/her ears like mine do, I would suggest you try this nifty product. Dave and I found it by chance in a PetSmart store when we were looking for something to help clean Carmine's ears.

It's called Liquid Filled Ear Swabs (from Petkin). Basically, they are little q-tip type things with liquid in them that clean out the wax and dirt from the cat's ears.

I've found they really work well. But they are hard to find in stores, so do a search for them on-line to see where you can get them.

Mommy's Getting Better

Milita and I have been taking good care of Mommy the past three days. She has been very sick. Milita and I take turns sitting by Mommy or taking naps with her. I was giving her lots of snuggles this morning. She is getting better and she should be back to posting again soon!

My Cats Took Care of Me Today!

I have been experiencing some medical issues - sinus infection and stomach troubles. But I've discovered that cats can sense when their owners are in distress.

As you can see, Carmine demanded I stay away from work to rest. He later took a nap with me. Milita laid by me on the couch for a long while with me, too.

I love that my cats can sense when something wrong and that they appear to care and love me. Cats are a great source of emotional support, so the next time you're having a bad day, chances are that your kitty will try to comfort you pain or relieve your stress.

CAT FOOD RECALL

Dozens of cat food brands are being recalled because they have been causing kidney failure and/or death in the cats who eat them. Stores are doing their best to pull the affected food off the shelves, but if you notice any behavior changes in your cat, you should take him or her to the vet. Watch for appetite, sleep, and behavior changes.

Cat Introductions

Introducing cats to one another is a tricky business. It requires planning, thought, and patience. I've been through this process three times and I have learned some valuable things I'd like to share with you so you don't make the same silly mistakes I did.

1. Don't let the new cat roam your home or apartment right away. You will have to keep the cats separate for days or weeks, depending on how quickly they adapt to one another.

2. Don't expect instant results. This process takes time and patience.

3. Make sure you spend time with EACH cat individually as well as time with the cats together. You want to reinforce that you love both of your cats and that it makes you happy to see them getting along.

Carmine, the springing feline!

Last night I couldn't sleep, so I got up and read for a while. Carmine was talking to me a lot, so I looked over at him to see if he wanted something.

He was sitting on my computer desk and stretched his front paws up toward Milita's bed (shown in the picture). The next thing I know, he sits back on his hind legs and springs up to Milita's bed!

He's never done this before. Dave says he has been stretching up to peer at Milita's bed lately, so he figures Carmine has been trying to see if he can jump that high.

I guess poor little Milita won't be able to "escape" to her bed anymore for some peace and quiet!!

Feeding Time!

We have started to feed Emma more of the Fancy Feast wet food lately. It seems like it helps her spirit. But now, every time Dave or I walk into the kitchen, all the cats come trotting in right behind us! They sit and beg and look pitiful until we give them some a lot of times. It's pretty cute and amusing.

I never knew cats could accidentally be classically conditioned!

Prayer Requests

Another one of my friends' family is having to put their dog to sleep due to cancer. Please pray for the dog and for the family. This is a difficult time for all of them.

Prayer Requests

I have a couple of prayer requests for anyone else (like me) who prays.

First, my friend's dog is being put to sleep tomorrow. His name is Dylan and he has cancer all throughout his body. He seems to be in a lot of pain right now and cannot stand up. Please pray that he has a painless sleep and finds his way to God. And please pray for everyone who loves him.

My second request is for Kitty, whose picture I posted earlier this week. She is going to the vet tomorrow where my mother will talk about whether it is time for her to be put to sleep or not.
